Can a battery power my home during a blackout?

Solar panels convert sunlight into electricity using photovoltaic (PV) cells. These cells produce direct current (DC) electricity, which is then converted into alternating current (AC) by an inverter for you to use in your home, store in a battery or export to the grid.

Yes, solar panels work efficiently in the UK's weather. They rely on daylight, not direct sunlight, to generate electricity. Ideally, you would want to install panels on a south-facing roof, but east and west-facing roofs also work well.

Savings depend on electricity usage, the number of panels installed, and tariff. Most customers save hundreds of pounds yearly, especially with Smart Export Guarantee tariffs.
